Patients having minimal arthritis in only one compartment out of three compartments of the knee , can be given option of a smaller knee replacement which is called half/unicondylar knee replacement. It is a very good surgery specially for young patients suffering from full thickness cartilage loss in one compartment of the knee. Obviously the decision to go for half or total knee replacement surgery lies with the surgeon.
